When I was finishing high school, a counselor asked me what I intended to study. I said I wanted to be a teacher, and he made a funny face and said “that’s all?” “can’t you aspire to something more than just being a teacher?”
I was ashamed and devastated, I had failed his expectations of me, and I was scolded in public, so all the other students heard about my “unimaginative” perspectives.
Thirty some years later, I found myself in this field, much more clear about why I wanted to be a teacher, thanks to having had the opportunity to roam through other laboring fields.
I ended up teaching English and literature, I also did a bit of science, these are some of my favorite fields, but beyond the subject, what I love is the chance to interact with young people’s minds. I want to be able to say when I reach the end of my days, that I have not lived in vain.
I think that long ago teacher was totally lost; this so called profession of teaching  is one of the best ways I have found to contribute, to return some of the privileges that life has bestowed on me.
